The Cost of Childcare
We know the cost of childcare is a serious expense for families. Did you know that the Federal Government legislation phasing in the National Quality Agenda has driven up the cost of care by as much as $26 per day per child? One of the main factors is the ratio of carer to children increases, and the need to employ staff with higher qualifications.
In my role as State President of the Australian Childcare Alliance SA and as a member of the National Executive of the Australian Childcare Alliance, I have spent many hours negotiating with and lobbying governments over the impacts on parent affordability. The Jobs for Families legislation scheduled for July 2017 will provide relief to many families, although some will be worse off. Our Association is negotiating with government to reduce the adverse impact on children and families, wherever they are affected by the legislation.
At Brooklyn Park we have made a determined effort to keep the cost of childcare down for families. Our current fees are among the lowest. Despite this, we have received a perfect score from the Quality Accreditation Board. We have recently been assessed as “Exceeding the National Quality Standard” in every quality area and element. This places Brooklyn Park in the top echelon of childcare centres in the country. Highest quality at an affordable cost!
